(Press Trust of India) November 05, 2013

Thane: The Shiv Sena Kajuwadi branch protested against high onion prices in a novel way in Thane. Expressing serious concern over rising prices of onions, former Mayor Ashok Vaity hit upon an idea of having a musical chairs competition for women during Diwali. Winners were given packs of onions as prizes instead of the prize money. The first prize (11 kg of onions) was bagged by Asha Jamdhare, the second prize (5 kg of onions) was bagged by Netra Karanjkar and the third prize (3 kg of onions) went to Sunita Nimbalkar.
Addressing the gathering, Thane Shiv Sena district chief Eknath Shinde condemned the Congress-NCP government at the centre and the state for its failure to check the rising price of onions in the country.
